As we prepare for the January Organizational Meeting (Thursday, January 19, 2017) where we will seat our new members elected this past June and elect officers, please be aware of the following, including an Open Seat in District 5 that will also be filled at the January meeting.
At the November meeting, the central committee approved a bylaw amendment requiring dues for the year to be due January 1 and considered past due if not paid by January 15. This means, if you are a voting member, that dues must be paid prior to the January meeting in order to be eligible to vote. Technically, you will be able to pay at the meeting, but because the organizational meeting has a VERY full agenda and people will be very busy, the chair highly recommends that you pay your dues in advance.
Dues are still $24/year. You may pay online at http://www.contracostadems.org/donate or you may send a check to DPCCC c/o Greg Sanborn, 702 Windmill Ct, Concord 94521. Checks may be made out to DPCCC.
There is an open seat in BOS District 5 on the central committee as of January. We will be appointing someone to fill that seat at the beginning of the January meeting. Any Democrat living in District 5 is eligible for the open seat.
The ADEM elections are coming up the weekend of January 7-8, 2017. In order to be eligible for ADEM, you must apply at http://www.cadem.org/our-party/adem. There is a $20 application fee. Applications must be received by the CDP by December 8 at 5pm.
Any registered Democrat is eligible to run to be an ADEM delegate or ADEM EBoard rep. There are 7 men and 7 women delegates per Assembly district plus one EBoard rep chosen from among the 14 elected ADEM delegates. More information is on the ADEM page. If you have any other questions, contact the chair or our regional directors. Two years ago, fewer than 7 women applied to be ADEM delegates from AD11. The chair strongly encourages Democrats in all districts to apply and make sure Contra Costa is well-represented at convention.
At the organizational meeting, in addition to electing the officers and district reps, we have to fill our Delegate seats for the state convention. Because of the tremendous voter registration surge, we will have 35 delegate seats to fill. We have a standard procedure for selection of delegates that grants our elected members the right to claim a delegate seat first. All remaining delegate seats are divvied up among districts based on the proportional representation of elected seats. The formula will be provided with the agenda after the January executive committee meeting. Due to timing (since we will run out of time at the January meeting), we generally do not elect our central committee EBoard reps until the March or April meeting. For the 2017-2018 cycle, we will have 4 EBoard reps from the DPCCC.
